The European Society of CardioVascular Surgery (ESCVS) was founded May 31st, 1951, in the city of Turin, Italy, with statutes in Strasbourg, France, under the name of “Société Européenne de Chirurgie CardioVasculaire”. René Leriche was elected as president R. dos Santosas as vice president, G. Arnulf as secretary-general and R. Riveaux as treasurer. The founders and subscribers of these first statutes were 40 physicians representing 11 European countries. The first congress of the society was organized in Strasbourg (oct. 5-6, 1952).


The objects of this Society shall be:
a) to promote the investigation and study of the art, science and therapy of cardiac and vascular disease, to coordinate this knowledge and to disseminate it;
b) to facilitate the exchange of ideas in the field of cardiac and vascular diseases through scientific meetings and by personal contact between cardiac and vascular specialists.

EDUCATION: The European Society for Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery is dedicated in providing educational opportunities to residents and young cardiac and vascular surgeons. Every year ESCVS would organized Summer and Winter School by the very experienced team of vascular and cardiovascular surgeons.

GOVERNANCE: The Candidates for Executive Committee Members shall be presented and elected during the General Assembly which coincides with the Annual Scientific Meeting (the Congress of the Society) by a majority vote of those Active and Honorary Members present at the General Assembly. more …
